Meet Squirt. A very loving dog who has spent her first 6 years living in a kennel. Hard to imagine this sweet, social gal not being able to interact with her people. Squirt does great with other dogs trying to get them to play with her. She LOVES attention and is very comfortable being as close to you as she can get. She is fostered with a 2 year old girl and her parents are very comfortable with having Squirt around her. Squirt has been on several off leash walks in the woods and sticks close by, venturing out to check a bush or two for birds.... she is a bird dog after all. She sleeps in her crate and is getting to where she goes in without any encouragement. This little gal is looking for a home where she will be part of a family, not relegated to the yard or a kennel. She would still love to go hunting and on hikes and runs....her breed is HIGHLY active. Squirt is going to need some help with housetraining, but given the fact she is so well crate trained, stability from her new family should be able to do the trick. If you think you can give this gal a place to call home, let us know!

UPDATE 02/18/2009 – Squirt’s hair is growing back quickly.
Squirt does have a skin condition that has been narrowed down to 2 (two) possibilities. It is possible she has seasonal alopecia (http://www.mckeevervetderm.com/documents/diseases/Flank%20Alopecia.pdf). This condition is cosmetic only and does not cause the dog any discomfort and is not a symptom of any underlying condition.
She could also be showing hair loss because of the stress and environmental conditions where she was kept.
Tests by our vet have ruled out any contagious skin conditions as well as any conditions such as hyperthyroidism.
